I was born in the English Lake District where, walking in the mountains, I first developed my life-long love of nature's landscapes.
After initially training as an engineer, I enjoyed a varied career in industry, education and business. Towards retirement I promised myself that I would take up watercolour painting and, if I was lucky enough to sell my efforts, I would donate the proceeds to children's charities. So far I have raised over £15,000.
I'm mainly self-taught, building on sound drawing skills as an engineer. I've also attended workshops around Europe with some of the world's most respected watercolorists including Alvaro Castingnet, Joseph Zbukvic, David Taylor, Michael Solovyev and David Bellamy.
I always try to capture the mood and atmosphere of a landscape, paying particular attention to the play of light and shadow. Although watercolour is often said to be the most difficult medium to master, I enjoy being able paint quickly in a loose, representative style, yet still be true to the view in front of me.
"David is passionate about watercolours.
He has been a great supporter of the work
of Children's Hospice South West (CHSW)
over a number of years.
We are delighted to have his continued support
through the sale of his paintings and in raising
awareness of the charity in the local community"
Heidi Roberts, Area Fundraiser at CHSW
